This field of weeds and wildflowers on Fort Street, between St. We also paid homage to my ancestors’ homestead. We were blessed with great weather most of the week, and the banks of the Lee are one of my favorite places to walk. Here’s me on a sunny day in Fitzgerald Park on the banks of the River Lee. We checked into the lovely Hayfield Manor and stayed for a week. Ĭork City is the Riordan ancestral homestead. I’m pretty sure they were planning something nefarious. We decided it was time to leave Dublin when the seagulls outside our hotel window started staking out our room. We had a scrumptious dinner at Glas, a vegetarian/vegan restaurant with a Michelin star, and we could see (and taste) why. Brigid has always been one of my favorite goddesses, er, saints. My favorites were these awesome stained glass windows of Ireland’s three great saints, Brigid, Patrick and Colmcille, done by Michael Healy in the 1920s. If your baby Jesus looks like this, see a doctor. His expression seems to say, “He’s right behind me, isn’t it?” Maybe that’s because Baby Jesus is depicted like this in the next painting. This John the Baptist looks rather worried as he proclaims the coming of Jesus. He looks cool.Īthena’s owl shows up in the strangest places. Some of our favorites from the National Gallery included Saint George killing the dragon, though my sympathies are very much with the dragon. Stephen’s Green on the good bus “Freya.” The last we saw them, they were turning into a tiny street that their tour guide promised was Thor’s Alley! Seems like Thor would merit at least a boulevard, but whatever. I’m not sure what Magnus Chase would’ve made of this tour group of alleged Vikings trundling around St. Stephen’s Green and visiting the National Gallery of Ireland. We spent our first full day getting our land legs in Dublin, walking St. Part business, part vacation, the trip took us from Dublin to Cork to the hinterlands of Munster and back again. But Tartarus is worse than anything they’ve ever encountered.Becky and I are just back from an eventful and fun two weeks in Ireland. Annabeth is dragged into the depths of Tartarus. Percy and the other demigods arrive to witness her moment of victory. Annabeth manages to free it and destroy Arachne at the same time. Annabeth knows she must get the statue back to Camp Half-Blood, but it’s guarded by Athena’s greatest rival, Arachne, who has spun a web to hold the statue in place. The Mark of Athena leads her to an ancient forty-foot statue of her mother that exudes incredible power. Quests usually call for three people, but on this one, Annabeth must go alone. Their goal? Follow the Mark of Athena and find what it leads to. Safely on board, the seven demigods, four Greek and three Roman, fly off on their most dangerous quest yet, one that will take them to Greece and Rome where their cultures began and where they were told never to go. Percy and Annabeth race to their friends’ aid, with Jason, Piper, Frank, and Hazel close behind. Just then, Leo’s flying ship starts firing on the Roman camp. The seven demigods must come from both camps. She and Annabeth conclude that the Great Prophecy-or, as the Romans call it, the Prophecy of Seven-is about combining the forces of Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter. Their praetor, Reyna, is willing to listen to the Greeks, however. Many of the Romans, particularly their augur, Octavian, view the Greeks with great suspicion. They reach Camp Jupiter safely and after six long months, Annabeth and Percy are finally reunited. If he’s right, then Percy is in Camp Jupiter.Īnnabeth sets sail for California aboard an incredible flying ship built and captained by Leo Valdez. Percy, Jason suspects, is being used in a similar way. Her goal was for him to get to know the demigods of Camp Half-Blood so that when she returned his memories, he could bridge the gap between the Romans and the Greeks. Hera plucked him from Camp Jupiter, his home, stole his memories, and got him here. He is not a child of Zeus, but of Jupiter, Zeus’s Roman aspect. She finally gets a lead from Jason, of all people, whose memories have returned. Annabeth Chase has been searching for Percy for months.
